  • Cambridge Essays: an essay writing prize

    There’s still time for Year 12 or Lower Sixth students to enter the Robson History Prize 2010 with a First Prize of £600 (split between the winner and their school) and a £400 Second Prize (also split between the winner and their school). To enter this essay writing competition, students should submit an essay of 2,000 to 4,000 words by the closing date of 31st May 2010. The topic can be chosen from any of the questions set for this year. Have a look at this list of Cambridge essays to see which question captures your imagination. You also need to be considering university study in order to enter the contest. The winners are invited to visit the college.

  • Student News: increasing cost of student loans

    With the cost of living and inflation rising, there will soon be additional costs for those with a student loan. In the autumn a charge of up to 4.4% will be levied in line with the Retail Price Index (RPI). This could have an impact on the 3.3 million people who have an outstanding loan dating from 1998 and before.

  • A boom in postgraduate study

    If you have been considering a return to study, you are not alone. Postgraduate courses have seen a sharp rise in applications. Back in 2007-2008 the numbers of people studying for Masters degrees increased by 27% and PhD numbers rose by 9%. More recent recent by the Higher Education Policy Unit (Hepi) has shown that although 78% of undergraduates found work in the professions three years after graduation, for postgraduates the figure stood at 94%.
